Cycle 15, Episode 4: Matthew Rolston

The contestants have a photo challenge on a roller coaster, and the winner gets a photo shoot with Tyra.  After some girl drama back at the house, they have a photo shoot with Matthew Rolston.  The aspiring model who cannot portray an undersea goddess must pack her belongings and get the hell out.

Roller Coaster Challenge
The girls head to Knott's Berry Farm and must ride a roller coaster then strike a pose based on an emotion that Nigel or Ms. J call out when zooming past a mounted camera.  Nigel stressed the importance of the models maintaining their composure.  Oh, no problem, Nigel!

One of the best quotes came from Serena (Chris) who was terrified of roller coasters:

"The feeling I get when I'm on a roller coaster is the same feeling I would get if a killer were chasing me down the street with a butcher knife.  No ma'am! No sir!" -- Serena (Chris)

For the fun of it, let's review the worst photos:

Challenge Winner
Denise Huxtable (Liz) was the challenge winner and got to bring two friends to have their photos taken by Tyra.  The photo will appear on Tyra.com to help Tyra yet again promote herself (of course).

The winner's job was to "out-fierce" Tyra by recreating a photo of hers.  Honestly, Denise HUxtable (Liz) looked better in person than she did in her photo. The final result was pretty blah, definitely not fierce.  The same thing happened to Mop Top (Kayla) who also looked better in person than the shitty final result. What's with the girls becoming clay robots??  Tyra, you can do better!

On the plus side, for those of you rooting for Mop Top (Kayla), Tyra thought she did a great job modeling, saying, "Look at you! You don't need any direction!!"

The only girl who got a decent shot and may come close to out-fiercing Tyra was Serena (Chris):

The most beautiful shot of the day.

After the photo shoot, the lucky three had tea with Tyra "like ladies."  However, Tyra was behaving a bit strangely (as per usual) and pulled a gangsta' move, spillin' some drank for the homies in the ground:

The ever lady-like, Tyra, toasts to tea and gives one up "for the homies."

Too Much Estrogen
Back at the house, we see the effects to twelve women living together in a house for four weeks. By now, they are all wiggin' out simultaneously on their lady hormones and we get to witness the PMS bitch-fest!  Uma (Lexie) starts the night out by passive-aggressively bitching about ReRun (Kacey) not cleaning up after herself.  And, of course, rather than talk to her face to face, Uma (Lexie) puts up a note and rants  to those around her while doing the dishes:

"I'm always spending my time cleaning other people’s shit. I’m really sick of cleaning up after everyone! I don’t know what everyone else is doing with their time, or what they do when they see a sink full of dishes, I don't know what their thought process is..."

[Later in the confessional]:  "Kacey never cleans. And she makes a lotta messes. I’m definitely at the breaking point with Kacey."

What happened to Uma (Lexie)'s previous statement that she was going to "focus on herself" rather than the other girls because she was winding up in the bottom again and again?  And here she is once more focusing on drama rather than sticking to her objective of "keeping ReRun (Kacey) at arm's length."

ReRun (Kacey) asks stunned: "Everyone here doesn't like me, is that what it is?" The silence is deadening. She proceeds to confront ReRun (Kacey), but rather than asking her to clean up after herself more and resolve the issue, instead she decides it's the perfect time to let her rival know that no one in the house likes her.

Things turn from bad to worse when the rest of the girls admit they think ReRun (Kacey) is fake.

Lucky (or not) for us, there is no extreme cat-fight throw-down.  Just a lot of awkward silence when ReRun (Kacey) demands people tell her exactly what they think about her.

In the end, ReRun (Kacey) decides she will continue being herself and not even bother trying to accommodate the other girls in the house.

"The girls in the house, it's their loss," she says.  Oh really?

Bad Fashion Side Note
ReRun (Kacey) just doesn't learn! She's wearning that damn ugly shirt again (above photo) even though the judges specifically told her not to!  Later, during juding panel, she gets called out again -- this time for her fugly shoes!!  At least she didn't combine them with her jewel-encrusted shirt or she would have really gotten slammed.

The judges pick up on the bad fashion instantly.  The hair on the back of their neck prickles up as ReRun (Kacey) steps towards them.  Horrified, they stare at her feet...

Andre: "Gold lamé shoes?"

Nigel: "Yeah, those are bad. I agree."

Tyra: "Those are bad."

The judges/fashion police make her take them off immediately to  swap for Tyra's sexy black heels.  Thanks to our powerful and insightful judges, another fashion crisis has not gone out into the world.

Photo Shoot & Judging
The girls must take a highly stylized beauty shot with photographer Matthew Rolston.  On set are millions of dollars worth of jewelry, as well as gross dead "sea creatures." Surprisingly, no one has a terrible freak out about the animals.  Rolston asks the contestants to think about portraying the character of an “undersea goddess” during the shoot.  Because the girls will be photographed through water while suspended over water, their movement is restricted and the challenge is to not have their faces become too mannequin-like.

Overall, the girls did very well, but there were a few standouts.

Uma (Lexie) had some trouble with the splashing water, and turned into an expressionist painting.

But that wasn't as bad as Casper (Chelsey) who became an amateur drag queen [again].  However, this time the judges called her out on it during panel.

Out of the mouth of Tyra, Casper (Chelsey) gets officially labeled "amateur drag queen."  Tyra even says she looks like she was eliminated early from RuPaul's Drag Race.  This is significant. Getting labeled can mean you have a limited time left on the show.  Casper (Chelsey) will have to work to overcome her new label.  If the same label is repeated a few weeks in a row, she will surely have a ticket home.

Even Nigel admits she looks like a drag queen, and offers Casper (Chelsey) this super helpful advice to make her feel better: "Some people just don't wear makeup as well as others."

Another standout was Denise Huxtable (Liz), but not because of her photo but rather because of her diva behaviour on set.  She kept giving excuses and had a lot of trouble during the shoot.  Mr J's reaction shot (photo right) says it all.

"Liz is a pain in the butt! Everything is a complaint from her.  You should be able to pose through ANYTHING.  She might have been the challenge winner this week, but in my opinion, she could have taken that roller coaster all the way home!"  -- Mr. J

If Denise Huxtable (Liz) keeps it up, she will find herself going home for sure.  In fact, her constant complaining alone led her to wind up in the bottom two.  Unbeleivably, even after finding out she would be staying in the competition, she continued to provide excuses.

Denise Huxtable (Liz): "I couldn't see. My contacts were jacked up..."

Tyra: "What do you need to see? The camera sees you; you don't need to see the camera."

Matthew Rolston summed it up best: "Never complain.  Never explain. Just be it."

Someone who knows how to "just be" was Giraffe (Ann), who killed it on the photo shoot.  She has had an incredible winning streak, and once again took home best photo.  I love Giraffe (Ann)! She is quirky, and quirky girls usually end up going home, unfortunately, so I'm proud that she is doing so well.

While she may not be able to sustain her lead, I think she really fits what Vogue Italia wants.  Frankly, she's a strong contender for sweeping the whole damn compeition.  Nigel even said that Giraffe's (Ann's) photo looks just like what they would do for Beauty in Vogue.  SCORE!!!

Crockpot Theory in Action: Get Labeled, Go Home

As we know, once a model is officially labeled in a negative way, it's just a matter of time before she goes home.  A few of the models are falling into categories and starting to get labeled.  For example, Casper (Chelsey) is an "amateur drag queen," Chester (Esther) is a "movie actress," Blockhead (Jane) is "Town and Country."  This week, we see an extreme example of a model getting labeled and going home in the same episode.

Poor Tumbleweed (Rhianna) was treading dangerous waters from the beginning of the episode.  She talked with Mop Top (Kayla) about her direct competition, Giraffe (Ann), who was on a winning streak. She realized that if she didn't step it up, she risked going home.  When you've got a "twin" in the competition, you need to be able to stand out, otherwise there is no reason for you to be there and you get sent home.

Early on, Denise Huxtable (Liz) starts the labeling process in a loose way, pointing out how Rhianna's photos all look the same:

"Rhianna at her photo shoots is not really changing it up.  She's just bringing the same look every time. -- Denise Huxtable (Liz)

Later, during the photo shoot, Mr. J repeats this sentiment saying:

"The real hurdle with Rhianna's photo shoot is she had a period feel to her photo.  But, as we're moving forward week to week, it was the same expression.  Not good."   -- Mr. J.

Later yet, we hear this "one note/same face" label repeated by Mop Top (Kayla) during one of her confessionals:

"Rhianna is, like, in one category.  You gotta be a chameleon.  You gotta be able to act." -- Mop Top (Kayla)

And then, sadly, during judging panel, we find that our dear Tumbleweed (Rhianna) finds herself in the bottom two against the constant complainer Denise Huxtable (Liz).  Tyra makes it clear that Tumbleweed (Rhianna) is in the bottom because she is "not versatile enough" and keeps bringing the same face.  She tells her she needs to "be more of a chameleon."  And with that, she is sent home.

The take-away: Once you are labeled in a negative way, fight against that label and adjust based on feedback -- immediately.

Cycle 15, Episode 3: Patricia Field

I may be biased because my name's also Patricia, but this the best episode yet!  It’s got makeovers, a fake makeover list prank, a double elimination (gasp!), a photo shoot challenge with male models, and special guest judge: Patricia Field!

The Elf Conspiracy
Is it just me, or do a bunch of girls this cycle look like elves? What's that about??  There must be some kind of conspiracy in the fashion industry that Vogue Italia wants an elf this year.

You Got Punk'd!
Uma (Lexie), Tumbleweed (Rhianna), and Giraffe (Ann) all cook up a plan to create a fake makeover list, leave it where someone will find it, then watch the drama unfold!  A plan Nigel Barker later calls "brilliant!"

Some of the girls [ie. Denise Huxtable (Liz)], get a little upset when they find out a prank was pulled on them, but the majority shrug it off as no big deal. Compared to the Rutgers web prank, this is pretty damn harmless, y'all.

Uma's (Lexie’s) refers to her fake tears over her “sewn-in strawberry blonde afro” as “Academy Award winning.”  More like Lifetime made-for-tv-movie caliber if you ask me.

Makeovers!
Before things get started, Mr. J explains there will be a photo shoot after makeovers, and that the goal during this shoot is to show how much the girls can embrace their new look. Who will rise to the occasion?

Giraffe (Ann) really got it. She passed Mr. J's test with flying colors, fully embracing her look.

"The new look will help my modeling potential because it exaggerates my height which makes me stand out." – Giraffe (Ann)

  Giraffe (Ann) Before and After.

Capser (Chelsey) also really embraced her makeover, even having the gap in her front teeth permanently widened.  Without any complaints she was immediately onboard with everything.

"Tyra wants ice blond, and, of course, I will do anything that she thinks looks good. The competition is so big and intense, and the stakes are so high that I take it really seriously." – Casper (Chelsey)

Casper (Chelsey) Before and After. She looks great in both photos, but is more ghostly after.

Mop Top (Kayla) also fell into group who really embraced their new look. And did she ever!!

"Personally I love my hair. I think that the boldness, the brightness meshes perfectly with who I am." – Mop Top (Kayla)

Mop Top (Kayla) Before and After. Talk about next level!! She looks ready for the Vogue Italia cover already!

Serena (Chris) loved her new long, curly brown weave because it's like Beyonce: "I got the Beyonce weave!!! I got that good hair! You can't buy this on the street!" Check out the video clip so you can hear her tell it like it is!

Mo' Chocolate (Kendal) recounts how  Tyra wants her to be more "sensual and sexual" so she gives her a long weave. The best part about this is the way Mo' Chocolate (Kendal) says "sensual and sexual." Check out the clip below. Go ahead, watch it 20 times like I did...

Not much changed drastically for Chester (Esther) and she didn't put up any drama fits either.

Chester (Ester) Before and After. She went from girl to woman!

Blockhead (Jane) embraced her new look. Nothing too drastic here, but her positive attitude really shined through: "They can do whatever they want!"

"I really feel like a model. I can do this now." – Blockhead (Jane)

Blockhead (Jane) Before and After. I think she needs to smize. Her gorgeous (albeit shiny) face looks dead in both pictures. Bring it to life, girl!

Tumbleweed (Rhianna) got long, gorgeous waves.

"I think it suits my personality because it's very hippy-like.” – Tumbleweed (Rhianna)

Tumbleweed (Rhianna) Before and After. She's workin' it!

In addition to getting her hair done, ReRun (Kacey) also got some new contacts as well. Bye-bye glasses!  Hello Preparation H! Trust me, you will be noticing her baggy eyes much more now...

"The girls should be worried 'cause Kacey's in the house! I still think I have this in the bag!" – ReRun (Kacey)

ReRun (Kacey) Before and After. I don’t think anyone is too worried.
In the other corner, are the girls who resisted their new looks.

Denise Huxtable (Liz) fought her makeover the whole time in the stylist's chair, complaining about her new look continuously and irritating the J's.

"I’m masculine-lookin' enough as it is, this is just addin' to it..."  Denise Huxtable (Liz)

Denise Huxtable (Liz) is complaining about her new look?!? It’s a huge improvement from the insane duo-crop she had goin' on before!

"I wouldn’t style it like this," she tells Mr. J.

Seriously? Why would you tell the judge you don’t like your new look when the whole point of the challenge is to embrace your new look?!  This is Cycle 15! Doesn't she know better than to question the judges by now?!  Didn't she learn anything from Cassandra, Cycle 5 who went home after not cooperating with her makeover

Having super short hair and showing one's jawline is a huge compliment from Tyra.  Doesn't she remember Jaeda from Cycle 6? Instead of bitchin', she should feel flattered that Tyra believes she can pull off such a strong look!!

So when Denise Huxtable (Liz) kept complaining, I'm sure the producers started prepping her boarding pass home. In fact, her behavior during the makeover leaves me questioning whether I should keep her in my gambling picks or exchange her for someone else. Afterall, questioning the authority of the judges can be a quick ticket home! This is not something to be taken lightly.

In the end though, somehow she managed to pull off a decent photo and convince the camera -- and the J’s -- that she was into her new look.

Then, there was the questionable makeover...  We all know Tyra loves the "no-eyebrow" look as evidenced by Snowflake (Erin), Dennis Rodman (Bianca), and Chevron (Rae) all from Cycle 13:

This cycle, Feminem (Sara) is the one Tyra decides needs to have her eyebrows bleached.  Uggh...

Poor Feminem (Sara) with her no eyebrows!  I think she pulls it off in this photo, but when you see her around the house in daily life she does look a bit alien.  Personally, I think she should have had dark eyebrows to make her more like a sexy Natasha from Cycle 8.

Soup Coola' (Terra) could not stop crying because she got her hair cut off. She definitely didn't embrace the makeover whatsoever.

"I feel like I have to work extra hard to model because I have no hair.” – Soup Coola' (Terra)

Soup Coola' (Terra) Before and After. Tyra did her a favor cutting off all that damaged hair!

Whatever, girl! Just like Denise Huxtable (Liz), you need to appreciate the fact that Tyra is giving you short hair because it means you have strong bone structure and can pull it off.  Learn the damn ANTM rules if ya gon’ play the game, girl!  You should know better by now!

In fact, Terra does so bad during her photo shoot that Mr. J says, "You could go to the mall and find a girl who poses better than this."

Oooh! Getting compared to someone at the mall is a low blow indeed!

As her sister Serena (Chris) explained: "I look over, and see my sister getting her hair cut and she's havin' a fit. The problem with my sister is it's written all over her face.  And I'm like, please suck it up, 'cause if you don't you will go home."

Mop Top (Kayla) couldn't understand why Soup Coola' (Terra) was making such a fuss:

"Terra was the girl who was unhappy with her makeover. This is what's going to take you to the next level. I don't understand why people cry. I don't understand why people get upset."

Unfortunately, our next aspiring model, Uma (Lexie), just didn't bring it in the photo shoot. Check out Mr. J reacting to her posing: "Oh HEEEEELLLL no!"

"I've just become very uninspired by her," Mr. J confides to Ms. J.  Oh, snap! Looks like it's time for a posing battle between Uma (Lexie) and Soup Coola' (Terra)!  Who can pose worse??!  The uninspired model or the one who poses worse than a stranger in the mall??

Uma (Lexie) Before and After. I think her problem is she isn’t smizing. You gotta bring life to those eyes!

Surprise Elimination!
We learn after the makeovers that someone is going home.  Come on now, they totally could have seen this coming.  Tyra warned the models earlier: "You know that Cycle 15 is gettin' realer and realer every day...When you're sitting in that hair chair, you may cry, and you may get emotional because we have connection to our hair as women. But just know, it's to make you more marketable."

The girls even got a warning from Mr. J too: "At the end of the day, we're going to do a quick little photo shoot to see if you can embrace your new look."  If the judges straight up tell you to embrace your new look, then FAKE IT while they are watching—even if you hate it! But, nooo, some of these girls just haven't learned the rules yet!

Who sucked:

  • Denise Huxtable (Liz): Complaining too much and questioning the designer/stylist.
  • Feminem (Sara): "On set you felt and looked a little uncomfortable," said Mr. J.
  • Uma (Lexie): "You embraced your makeover before you stepped on set but that confidence left in the chair right in front of the mirror," explained Mr. J.
  • Soup Coola' (Terra): Continuously questioning the designer/stylist, openly sobbing.

In the end, Soup Coola' went home. This actually came as a shock, because she has so much potential. I was really wishing Uma (Lexie) would go home.  But then again, Soup Coola' (Terra) has been breakin' down a LOT lately. It seems like every episode she is crying multiple times.  She is such a gorgeous girl but she doesn't know how to make it translate on camera.

How can we be certain the judges made the right decision?  Well, Soup Coola' (Terra) proves to us how much she just doesn’t get it during her exit interview:

"I much rather would have had them send me home before they cut my hair than after.  I don't feel like it was a good decision at all!" – Soup Coola’ (Terra) whilst sobbing.

And with that, there are no regrets sending her home!

Photo Shoot
Malibu, CA

Can I just day, DAMN!, what a nice location!

And I loved Mr. J’s crazy outfit for the shoot!

For this week's photo shoot, the girls work with photographer, Anne Menke.  The ladies don a harness and are hoisted up into the air to portray fallen angels.  Each one chooses an emotion they must convey on camera. Now for the best and worst:

Chester (Esther) was first up and chose the word 'fearless' for her angel's emotion

While she looks great before getting in front of the camera, she stumbles after and is unable to connect with the male model. It gets so bad that the photographer stops Chester (Esther) in the middle of the shoot. How embarrassing!

Next up, was Denise Huxtable (Liz) who did super bad on her photo shoot because she would not stop complaining.  I’m getting tired of this shit again!  When is she going to learn to act humble?  This is a huge unspoken Tyra Rule.  She even went so far as to pull a diva move, stopping the entire shoot so that she could adjust her harness.

"Liz is becoming a pain in the butt! From makeover day to today, everything is a complaint from her!" – Mr. J.

But who killed it?  That's right, Mop Top (Kayla)!

"Kayla is not attracted to this male model. But you know what, if you can make me believe it, you've more than done your job.” – Mr. J.

Serena (Chris)
also pulled it off during the shoot:

"She became this other wordly, soft, feminine creature." – Mr. J.

Ann (Giraffe) killed the shoot too:

"I haven't really had much experience with dudes, so I was kinda nervous in the beginning. But once I actually stepped out there, I was like, okay, this is alright." – Giraffe (Ann)

Uma (Lexie), however, was among the worst. She got bad commentary all around:

"Lexie she probably shouldn't model to be really honest.  I think that her whole body is like not right for it.” – Anne Menke, photographer

"Every time Lexie steps on set she lets me down.” – Mr. J

Uma (Lexie) had a very hard time modeling H2T (head to toe) and couldn't figure how to deal with her big, awkward feet:
The male model wants her stanky feet out his face! Not sexy!

Elimination
This week's special guest judge was Patricia Field, who looked and sounded like she had a severe hang-over.  She even wore dark sunglasses at certain points during filming.

Leading the Pack

Mysterious Casper (Chelsey) creates a dynamic in her photo that the judges love.

Mop Top (Kayla)

Mop Top (Kayla) delivers an intriguing photo.

Giraffe (Ann)
Andre: "I think it's fabulous!"

Middle of the Pack
Tyra decides that the group did so bad overall that they should grade on a curve.

Serena (Chris)
Tyra: "I don't think this picture is that strong, but right now because the film is so weak collectively that now we must grade on the curve. So, on the curve, you are rising above the pack. Just know that if you're heartbroken, next time, you need to be broke down.”

Tumbleweed (Rhianna)
She gave good face and connected with her body, but the judges were not falling over themselves about it.  However, I’m liking her so much that I’m seriously considering switching out Denise Huxtable (Liz) for Tumbleweed (Rhianna). Making a gambling change has consequences though, so I really need to be certain about this…. It will require more thought.

Pullin' Up the Rear

Chester (Esther)
Nigel: "It looks to me like a still from movie, but at the same time, it's not cinematic. Because the male model's doing nothing really, but he looks genius."

Tyra: "Esther, your face was like this in every single shot. It's like you weren't there."

Uh-oh. Based on this critique, Chester (Esther) is on the verge of being labeled either a "movie actress" or "blank face."  Either way, once you are officially labeled by the judges, this can be your ticket home.

Chester (Esther) has not been officially labeled yet, but she needs to heed this warning and watch out for any repetition of these terms.  Beware!!

ReRun (Kacey)
Her photo was fine, but where ReRun (Kacey) sucked was in her wardrobe choice:

Andre: That's just too much fashion!
Kacey: This is actually part of the shirt, though.
Patricia: Well, you shouldn't have worn the shirt.

Well said, Patricia Field!

Haven't the models learned yet to wear a tank top, jeans and heels?!?  That's the model uniform during Tyra boot camp. Wear it, ladies!!

For those of you planning on auditioning...here are long-time casting director Mock-Falcon’s two top tips: (1) "Wear a tank top, jeans, and heels. I think girls think if they come like that, they'll feel underdressed. Then they're shocked if I call back the one girl in the line that's Plain Jane. They're like, 'Ohmygod, I got this, I spent this much money.' It's not about that.'" (2) "Come as natural as can be. We've had girls who've had to go take all their makeup off because they have so much of it on. Girls come in wigs and all sorts of things. Really, we just need to see through all of that."

Read the complete article here.

Uma (Lexie)

Tyra:  "You didn't give us predatorial. You didn't even give us editorial. You gave us 'deadatorial'."

Nigel's reaction to Uma's (Lexie's) photo says it all. Look away, folks, look away!

Feminem (Sara)

Feminem (Sara) does especially bad, and receives criticism from all the judges:

Nigel: "I mean, really?"

Tyra: "It looks like an amateur ballet dancer to me."

Andre: "There's no aspiration and no inspiration in the photograph!"

Tyra warns the girls: “This film this week was near a disaster. And with the caliber of photographers we have this season, you girls really need to step it up.”

Tyra: "So we have a strong set of girls--"

Nigel: "Beautiful."

Tyra: "But this week, these pictures are--"

Andre: "Drek-i-tude!!!"

Tyra: "And they had an amazing photographer. So there's no excuse!"

In the end, it was between Uma (Lexie) and Feminem (Sara). They both did terribly. Ultimately, the judges decided that it was Feminem's (Sara's) time to go.  I thought that Uma (Lexie) should have been the one packing her bags.  But, instead they sent home no-eyebrows.  However Feminem (Sara) showed us that she did learn and grow during the experience.

She certainly showed a lot more maturity than Soup Coola' (Terra), for example, who didn't understand that her new look was to make her more marketable and something she could use to book modeling jobs.  Oh well. You can't teach 'em all, I guess!

And now for a glimpse back at how Feminem (Sara) got her name:

"I'm white, but I can rap!"

Top Model Picks: The gambling begins!

Alright, so I'm nearly a week late making my Top Model picks for our gambling pool. Our standard rule is we must make our selections prior to watching the make-over episode (which aired last Wed 9/22/10).  However, because I'm desperate to find out what happens in the 3rd episode, it's time to make it happen!

After agonizing for almost two weeks over my selections and going back and forth on certain girls right up until the last moment (ie. I'm still agonizing now), I think I'm finally ready to make it official!  Although there is still a big part of me that wants to re-evaluate some more for another 2 weeks to make sure I have the best picks...

Patty's Picks for the Gambling Pool:

1)     Mop Top (Kayla)

I loves me some Mop Top (Kayla)! I am really rooting for her to win this whole thing!  Like many of us, I would love it if a gay girl finally won ANTM.  Mop Top (Kayla) has a great look and a very strong face.  She can be super editorial, which is exactly what is needed for the cover of Vogue Italia.  The camera loves her, she poses great, and she doesn't participate in drama.  What's not to love??

2)     Giraffe (Ann)

I also loves me some Giraffe (Ann)!  She is pretty much tied with Mop Top (Kayla) for my #1 choice, and I would love it if she won the whole show.  She falls into the "quirky" category and while most of the quirky girls in past cycles win my heart, they never seem to win the title of ANTM.  Giraffe (Ann) reminds me of Lauren, another quirky girl, from Cycle 10:

Cycle 10's Lauren dons raw meat and proves she knows how to make it hot -- even in an ice cold meat locker

I know these models don't really look alike, but their quirky nature that draws me to them. Both women seem to initally not have a chance at winning.  But once the camera starts clickin' and after the makeover --BAM!-- they come outta nowhere with extreme beauty and amazing photos.  I think if Giraffe (Ann) wins, it will be a tribute to all the past quirky/awkward contestants who didn't make it, as well as to all "weirdo" girls who think they can't make it in the fashion industry.

3)     Casper (Chelsey)

Experience.  That's what it really comes down to.  I'm hoping Casper (Chelsey) is a points horse in the competition.  She said she has some prior modeling experience, so I'm banking on that to earn me some points.  I'm not necessarily crazy about Casper (Chesley), but I like her look.  For my sake, let's hope she does awesome.

4)     Denise Huxtable (Liz)

This is another pick that I am not 100% on, but I'm going with it.  Denise Huxtable (Liz) has a lot of potential.  She has a strong look, the camera seems to love her, and she is highly motivated to win.  She has had a rough background, is a young, single mother, and has been working two full-time jobs to try to make ends meet. This is a girl who could use a break.  Now I just need her to win best photo a whole bunch of weeks in a row and not get sent home too soon.

5)     Serena (Chris)

Okay, so I admit it. Serena (Chris) is my "token black chick."  But that's not the only reason I picked her.  I love her strong personality and great ability to pose well for the camera. I'm not crazy about her rounded features.  [Actually, I prefer her sister Soup Coola's (Terra') look more. More on that below.] But, in the end, her personality won me over.  If she can make it to the go-see's, I think the designers will appreciate it too.

What About So-and-So?? Why Not Her?

I know some of you might ask, "Well, what about so-and-so? Why didn't you pick her instead?"  Well, I go through a careful screening process for most of my picks.  However, there were a few others that caught my eye and whom I am still not sure if I should have picked them instead.  This was definitely a tough call to make!!!

So, here's who didn't make the cut and why:

1)     Chester (Esther)

I freakin' love Chester (Esther)! I think she has a great face that would be such a great fit with Vogue Italia.  She is definitely one of my "back-up" girls and I had a hard time not putting her into my picks.  I like her unique features, but I wish her personality were a little stronger.  However, being one of the quiet girls is not necessarily a bad thing.  I bet Esther (Chester) will go far.  I am secretly rooting for her too.

2)     Mo' Chocolate (Kendal)

This is another girl I love too!  She is one of my "back-up" girls as well.  I nearly put her in my Top 5 as my "token black girl" instead of Serena (Chris).  Both photograph really well. And while I like Serena's (Chris's) personality more, I like Mo' Chocolate (Kendal's) look more.  I mean, she just looks like a top model.  So why didn't I pick her?  Well, because someone who looks a lot like her won last cycle:

Chocolate Ass (Krista) was the winner of Cycle 14I know that Mo' Chocolate (Kendal) may win a lot of points and cause me to lose the gambling pool.  Trust me, I know this.  I'm sure I'll be kicking myself a few weeks from now for not putting her in my picks.  But really, folks, I just don't think that Tyra will have two girls who look alike win ANTM back to back.  In fact, during the initial model interviews, Kendal reminded us so much of Chocolate Ass (Krista) that we nick-named her Mo' Chocolate!  I think the Cycle 15 winner is a lot more likely to be a while girl simply because a black girl won Cycle 14.  It's not a guaranteed deal, it is simply a higher probability.  And when we are talking about gambling, it's all about probability and odds.  So, for those reasons, I had to cross Mo' Chocolate (Kendal) off my list.

3)     Blockhead (Jane)

How many "back-up" girls can I have?  One more, please!!  Blockhead (Jane) is another personal favorite.  She was tied with Chester (Esther) for makin' it into my picks.  However, she is in the same industry category as Mop Top (Kayla) -- they both have strong bone structure.  I'm not sure it would be wise to select two girls from the same category.  I like to mix it up so that I have a higher chance of winning.  Because I like Mop Top (Kayla) better, Blockhead (Jane) instantly went into my "alternates" group.  But it really was a tough choice because her face photographs SO well. She has a truly stunning look that I could see on the cover of Vogue Italia.  I think she will go far. She just needs to bring out her personality a little bit more.

4)     Soup Coola' (Terra)

I love her look and her personality. However, with two sisters in the competition, I feel as though I should only choose one.  What are the odds they will both make it to the end?  Soup Coola' (Terra) has a strong, angular face and a great runway walk. However, her younger sister Serena (Chris), has a round face with round features and poses better.  Ultimtely, I like Serena's (Chris') personality a little bit more than her sister's.  Let's hope for the best because I love both these girls!

5)     Tumbleweed (Rhianna)

While Tumbleweed (Rhianna) has that unique quirkiness to her, a strong look, and a seemingly innate ability to pose, I opted not to choose her because I already have Giraffe (Ann) and I like her far better.  Nothing against Tumbleweed (Rhianna), it's just all about the zen balance in this gambling game.

6)     Feminem (Sara)

Feminem (Sara) has a strong look, but I'm not convinced about her personality. Maybe she just hasn't gotten enough camera time.  Again, it's also a balance thing; I can't have too many white girls in my picks, so I left Feminem (Sara) out.

7)    Uma (Lexie)

This girl did not even make it into my selection process. Instead, Uma (Lexie) was immediately ruled out when she started participating in gossip.  Break an unspoken Tyra Rule and it's just a matter of time before you go home!  Plus, I don't really like her look...

8)     Re-Run (Kacey)

Re-Run (Kacey) is another girl who violated Tyra's unspoken ANTM "no gossip" rule.  For that reason she did't enter into my selection process either.  I like her look in some of her photos, granted, but I don't like her attitude at all.  Also, what about those baggy under eyes?  I'm not sure they would look good on a cover of Vogue Italia...  I vote no!

Cycle 15, Episode 2: Diane Von Furstenberg

Location: Venice Beach, CA

Opening Credits

Yes, it’s the same song and intro style as past cycles.  There’s no mixing it up here.  But we all know Tyra has to use and re-use her opening a minimum of 5 cycles before she will consider re-doing it.  Personally, I think they are pretty cool. I’m not sick of these yet.

Time to make it hot!

The House

Can we just talk about the house for a minute? The location is SICK!! Right on the beach!

"Oh my god, it is like a glass palace!  I live in a mobile home, so this is brand new to me." – Mo' Chocolate

"My favorite part about our house is the runway right in front of the window." – Chelsey

Giraffe (Ann): Self-Proclaimed Weirdo

I loved the moment on the balcony when Serena (Chris) and Giraffe (Ann) take some time to get to know each other better. They seemed liked they were being very genuine.  No drama here, just good times.

Serena (Chris):    After this, we gonna find you a man!  You laughin'!  I’m fo' real! I got some homeboys. What's yo' type?

Giraffe (Ann):    Hobos are kinda hot.

S [in diary room]:    Anne’s different.

S:     What’s the oldest you’ll go to?

G:    [after some thought]  Sixty.

S:     What kinda man do you want?!

G:     He has to be a warlock. And he has to spit fire. And he has to know how to make sushi.

S:     You gon' be single.

Challenge: Runway Show for Diane Von Furstenberg

Can I just say – HOLY CRAP!  Walking in a Diane Von Furstenberg runway show as the first real challenge – WHAT?!!  Not to mention on a runway that is 4 stories in the air – WHAT?!?!  ANTM is really raising the bar here!  This would normally be on the level of a final challenge!  Also, the models also must do their own hair and makeup before the show! They are really forcing these girls to step up or step out.

The Js and models barely visible from below the 4-story high runway
The J's open the show - but how can you even see them from up there??
The runway from the model's perspective. Of course, it HAS to be glass!
View from the crowd of Giraffe (Ann) strutting her stuff
Re-Run (Kacey) right before she gets on the runway without her glasses

Tyra's Rules for Winning: Follow them if you wanna stay on top

Rule 1) The bitch always loses.  Don't be a bitch. Don't gossip.  Don't talk about people behind their backs.  Once Anamarexic (Anamaria) breaks this basic rule, she pulls out the pin in the grenade that will send her back home.  It's just a countdown until the end ... tick tock tick tock...

Anamarexic (Anamaria) Trash Talking Highlights

"All of these girls are my competition now. I’m more high fashion. I’m more versatile.  I'm not like a small town little girl.  I guess it's my New York attitude, but I think I'm fuckin' awesome."

"All the girls here to me don't really have, like, the potential to, like, continue this to the next level. So I don't need to worry about these girls. They are nobody to me."

"The other girls, to me, had, like, a busted walk. So, I'm not even paying attention. Like really."  [Then guess who fell off the runway at the end? That's right: Anamarexic (Anamaria)!]

"I mean, they're pretty girls, but they're just small town American girls. I wouldn't look twice walking down the street.  Like, I'm not trying to be mean you know, it's just true."

Photoshoot: Teen Bullying

Goal: To show how one word does not define who you are as a person.

Mr J was once a "Band Geek" but didn't let the word define him. He is now a Creative Genius!

In the photo, Mr. J wants the models to "show how you have shed that negativity [of the 'bully' word] and that you are a strong, empowered person.”   Deborah Anderson, the photographer, explains that she wants the girls to "reveal who you really are inside through your eyes and through body language."

Whenever Tyra does this kind of shit (imbuing the photo shoot with a PSA-style message) it feels like she is taking left-over content from her talk show and using it in Top Model.  On the plus side, this experience may help reduce drama in the house by bringing the girls closer together and making them vulnerable in front of each other.

Mop Top (Kayla): Out & Proud

"There has never ever ever been a lesbian win ANTM. And I would love it so much if I could just be the first one." –Mop Top (Kayla)

During the photoshoot, Mop Top's (Kayla's) issues with being bullied because she is "queer" really touched a nerve.   It’s sad that in 2010 people cannot be open about their sexuality without fearing people will see them differently, that they might lose friends and family, that their safety could be jeopardized.  Haven't we evolved past this narrow-minded thinking?

Mop Top (Kayla) was clearly affected by the bullying in her past. She even had to change schools because it got so bad.  She admitted to Tyra how difficult it would be to see this word written on her body because that was the same word which caused her so much pain.  By choosing her power word as "free," Tyra was right to say Mop Top (Kayla) was "taking the power back."  It was a touching moment, and I struggled to hold back my tears.

The only potential downside to Mop Top (Kayla) as a contestant on the show is that it now gives Tyra leeway to create a PSA-style photoshoot about homosexuality in a future episode.  Don't be surprised if Tyra has a "Don't Ask Don't Tell" shoot.  Tyra loves to combine tough social issues with current political topics.  With Lady Gaga stepping in the ring, Tyra will likely jump on the bandwagon too.

What We Learned

  1. Diane Von Furstenberg is President of the CDFA
  2. CDFA = Council of Fashion Designers of America
  3. Colon vertebral = spine in French

Final Thoughts: Can a Model be Too Thin?

Anamarexic (Anamaria) on her body: "I like being thin"  ... "I'm on a calorie-restricted diet. That's how I keep my weight in check. Being a model, that’s how I feel it should be."

With that, Anamarexic (Anamaria) was the first to go home. Too tall and too thin – isn't that the definition of a model??  It's hard to believe the fashion industry could deem anyone "too thin."  After all, this is the same industry that places an ad with a model whose  head looks like it's bigger than her waist (thanks, Photoshop!).

I agree with Tyra and applaud her sending Anamarexic (Anamaria) home because she was projecting an image that she was hurting her body. Had Anamarexic (Anamaria) admitted she was unhealthy and asked for help, she would still be in the competition. However, she felt she was doing the right thing as a model (role-model), by maintaining an under-weight body (i.e. skeleton).

Anamarexic (Anamria) defended herself at panel saying: "I like my body. Honestly. I like looking in the mirror and seeing my abs."

However, as Diane Von Furstenberg explains, "As the President of the CFDA I say, 'Beauty is health, and if you’re not healthy you lose your beauty.'"

The sad thing is I don't think that Anamarexic understood this important message.  Upon leaving, she said: "If I get told by multiple agencies that I'm too thin, then we can do something about it."  She doesn't seem to have learned anything from the experience.

Anamarexic's (Anamaria's) emaciated body and cocky attitude ultimately sent her home

Cycle 15, Episode 1: Welcome to High Fashion

Location: The girls travel from Los Angeles to Palm Springs via bus – how classy.  Well, at least it was a private charter bus.

New Prizes

Tyra is really hooking this group up.  Not only do they get a Vogue Italia COVER, but also TWO fashion spreads!!!  WHAAAAAAT!!!! ANTM has really upped the ante this season! Not to mention the $100K contract with Cover Girl Cosmetics and the fact that the winner will be represented by IMG Model Management.  Holy WHAT!!!!

All I can say is, these girls need to give great FACE and be super editorial to win this cycle’s prize!  Tyra has certainly taken ANTM to the next level!

Challenge: "Runway Walk" for Cynthia Rowley

Goal: Stand out against your own type within the industry.

The girls are grouped into industry types and don Cynthia Rowley clothes for an impromptu runway walk judged by the J’s.  First up, the Quirky girls -- my favorite!

Quirky

From left to right: Tumbleweed (Rhianna) / Giraffe (Ann) / Jordan / Jersey Shore Angelina look-alike / Uma (Lexie)

The girls stomp hard down the runway.  Jordan in particular has quite an angularness to her when walking. Check out how crooked her body is compared to Giraffe (Ann) for example.

Jordan works the end of the runway hard – posing so much Ms J says someone should give her a stripper pole.  He appreciated the group so much, that he had to do an impersonation (below).

Jordan (center) still posing hard while Jersey Shore look-alike Angelina (second from right) decides the photographers have had enough and heads back. Meanwhile Uma (Lexie) (far right) looks disgusted at Jordan’s posing and takes a second to observe the horror in action.

Ms. J impersonates Jordan's runway stripper moves

Sexy

From left to right: Chester (Esther) / Re-Run (Kacey) / Feminem (Sara)Chester (Esther) shows her mad skills hiding things.  Check out those elf-like ears!

From left to right: Loser #1 / Loser #2 / Re-Run (Kacey) / Feminem (Sara) / Chester (Esther) Here the Sexy group reveals how difficult it can be to get the timing right when walking with other models.  Some girls get to the end of runway before others.

Strong Bone Structure

Mop Top (Kayla) (left) walks against Blockhead (Jane)

Both these girls give strong face! Mr J comments, “Boy, your girls are lookin’ meeeean!"

Blondes

From left to right: Emily / Casper (Chelsey) / Anamarexic (Anamaria)Casper (center) thinks she has the best walk of her group. The J’s seemed to agree.

Brunettes

From left to right: Loser #1 / Rich Bitch (Vanessa) / Another loser / Soup Coola’ (Terra)Where is Serena (Chris)? Is it just me, or is she not in any of these groups?  I would assume we would have seen her in the Brunette group or even the Sexy group, but alas, I can't find her.  Is she group-less??

Obligatory Girl Drama

If you’ve watched ANTM before, you know there are some unspoken rules about the competition.  In this segment, we see some girls violating the “no gossip” rule. A big no-no!!

It all starts when Re-Run (Kacey) accuses Jordan of not wanting to be in the competition.  I can understand how upsetting it would be to learn a contestant may not be fully invested in the competition and to also know she could potentially take your spot on the show.  However, Re-Run (Kacey) doesn’t go about addressing this concern in the right way.  Instead of taking Jordan aside and privately asking her if there is some kind of misunderstanding, Re-Run (Kacey) starts shit talking in front of the whole group.  What’s worse, she does so based on hearsay from fellow contestant, Uma (Lexie), who is also treading dangerous waters by involving herself in gossip.

Re-Run (Kacey) happily puts Uma (Lexie) in the awkward position of explaining the situation to the whole group.  Uma (Lexie) relates how uncomfortable that was:

"Kacey didn’t want to ger her hands dirty, but she wanted drama and she got it at my expense.  I feel like I was a pawn of Kacey’s.  I don’t trust her for a second." – Uma (Lexie)

Although Uma (Lexie) doesn’t have to share the gossip in front of everyone, she does – thus toeing the line of the unspoken Tyra Rules.  For participating in the drama, Uma (Lexie) gets strikes against her – just not as many as Re-Run (Kacey).

The girls believe Jordan doesn’t really want to be there because she stated previously that she is “anti-consumerism”.  While this is a bit illogical considering her potential profession, it doesn’t necessarily mean that she doesn’t want to be a model.  However, Uma (Lexie) jumps to this conclusion and then begins spreading the gossip.  Now, thanks to Re-Reun (Kacey), the whole group is involved and making judgments about something that may not even be true.

The only thing this situation achieves is now Re-Run (Kacey) has her days numbered.  As soon as she became involved in meaningless gossip and started drama with the entire group, she pulled her own “grenade pin.”  Yes, folks, the clock is now ticking for Re-Run (Kacey).  These are the consequences you suffer for breaking one of Tyra’s Rules.

Personally, the best part of the whole drama was the way Ritch Bitch (Vanessa) chimed in and brought it all to a quick close.  After Uma (Lexie) and Re-Run (Kacey) finished spotlighting Jordan and making claims about who wants to be there more, Ritch Bitch (Vanessa) slammed them both saying:

"Maybe you could spend your time focusing on how to become a better model instead of focusing on her. I’m just sayin’..."  – Ritch Bitch (Vanessa)

Wow!! For the first time ever, someone finally voiced how I feel about all the BS drama!  Focus on yourself rather than the other girls – ‘nuff said!!  I have to give Ritch Bitch (Vanessa) props.  Even though she is spoiled, she said exactly what I have been wanting someone to say EVERY time there is drama.  You go girl!

The best part is the look on Jordan’s face afterwards! You can tell she really enjoyed that moment!

Jordan (seated, right) feels the love after Rich Bitch slams Uma (Lexie) (center)

Oh! The Responsibility!

Tyra takes the selection process seriously -- especially this cycle.  Prior to interviewing the girls, she notes: "This girl that wins this cycle will be a name in the fashion industry. So we have to make sure that the girl we chose, we are behind her 100%.  Because it’s not just the public liking her, it’s the whole fashion industry, and our reputations and names are on her."

"Our reputations are on the line!" – Tyra

Model Interview Highlights with Tyra and the J's

When Ms. J first sees Re-Run (Kacey) he compares her to the transgendered Twig & Berries (Isis) from Cycle 11... and rightfully so, don't you think?

Twig & Berries (Isis) from Cycle 11 vs Re-Run (Kacey) from Cycle 15

Tumbleweed (Rhianna) walks in and right away Tyra tells her how much she loves her fashion sense.

“Some people would say, ‘Has she lost her mind?’ But I say, no, she lost her mind all the way into rightness for me!” – Tyra

After the judges ask where she finds inspiration for poses from, Tumbleweed (Rhianna) responds that nature is her biggest inspiration.  She looks to plants and trees to boost her creativity when posing.  The judges quickly challenge her to pose like a tumbleweed (below):

And with this pose, Rhianna  earns the nickname Tumbleweed!  I must say the girl knows how to get down! Below she shows off her cactus-inspired pose (left) and her broke-down weeping willow.  That one made the judges swoon with delight!

Next up we have Mop Top (Kayla) who earned her nickname by showing up with head FULL of curls:

Tyra cannot get past Mop Top's (Kayla's) curls and orders her out of the room to wet down her hair

I doubt we will ever see Mop Top (Kayla) in this sorry state again.  As a result, I'm sure I'll have trouble remembering her nickname and will no doubt end up calling her "Gayla".

Another great moment during the interviews was Ms. J reacting to Chester's (Esther's) large cup size.  Her 30G's made his jaw drop:

Tyra easily shrugs off Mr. J’s concern about Chester’s (Esther's) bust size and her potential inability to fit into sample size garments: “She holds her G’s better than my D’s!”

The next character worth noting is Mo' Chocolate (Kendal) who at the age of 23 admits she is "pure":

Tyra:   I understand that you’re pure.

Mo’Chocolate:   Yes.

T:   Tell me why being intimate with a guy grosses you out or freaks you out.

MC:   I don’t like semen. … I don’t like semen on my hand. I don’t like it.  I’m kinda grossed out about it.

Tyra’s "Say whaaa'?!"’ reaction is, I'm sure, the same as everyone’s at home

The next contestant, Giraffe (Ann), received a huge reaction shot from Ms. J the moment she walked in:

Whether a result from her quasi-unibrow, her extreme height (6'2"), or her tiny waist we can't be sure.  Needless to say, Ms. J's reaction was worth re-watching!

All of the judges were amazed at how tiny Giraffe's (Ann's) waist actually is:

Ms. J's fingers touch when wrapped around Giraffe's (Ann's) waistCan I just say TEENY TINY?! Holy lord her waist is narrow for someone so tall!

The contestants that entered with the highest energy were the definitely two sisters from Texas: Soup Coola' (Terra) and Serena (Chris):

"Lemme lift tha weave so I can hear ya!" -- Serena (Chris) (right)

And finally, we learn how Uma (Lexie) gets her nickname:

"I get [compared to Uma Thurman] all the time! ALL the time." - Uma (Lexie)

Obligatory Racial Drama

Emily (Who? All you need to know is she is white and southern) is ganged up on by a bunch of girls who read her diary and accuse her of being racist.  First of all, why was anyone reading someone else’s diary??  Secondly, to resolve the situation--once again--the girls do not aproach Emily with good intentions, but instead with blame and pre-judgements.  It's no wonder none of these girls made the final cut.  Drama drama drama!

De'Yana (center, pink) spits fire at Emily (seated, green chair)The most ridiculous part about the whole scene?  The fact that De'Yana doesn't understand how mean she is being and claims she "doesn't mean to hurt anybody's feelings" despite the fact that Emily is sobbing openly in front of her and apologizing profusely for the misunderstanding.

"I don't mean to hurt anybody's feelings, but this is Top Model and as far as I'm concerned that's one girl down and 32 more to go! ...  If you can't take the heat get out tha kitchen!" - De'Yana

From 32 to 20

Who's out that may we care about / recognize their name:

  • Rich Bitch (Vanessa) – (You already forgot who she was, right?)  Guess what? The bitch don't win! Guess what else? She was too commercial anyway! Pageant girls do not make high fashion models.  How else could we tell she was going home? Immediately prior to the cut, she said: "I’m not nervous about [the cut] because I’m amazing."  Brag, go home.
  • Emily – (Who? Exactly.)  Racist bitches don’t win. ‘Nuff said.

What's Your Type?

The fashion industry places a lot of focus on type.  When casting a runway show, designers build a show around a pre-selected type.  In the next segment, we see the girls go head-to-head in a photoshoot while wearing Cynthia Rowley clothes.  They must face their direct competition and try to stand out.  Talk about jumping right into serious competition!!  Holy hell these girls have got to bring it from the get-go!  I don't remember previous cycles being this tough!

Chester (Esther) vs. Feminem (Sara)

Feminem (Sara) (right) comes outta nowhere and outshines Chester (Esther), who, in my book, still stands strong

Anamarexic (Anamaria) vs. Casper (Chelsey)

Casper (Chelsey) (right) outshines Anamarexic (Anamaria), who looks ready to faint from not eating for the past ten days

Blockhead (Jane) vs. Mop Top (Kayla)

The two strong competitors show Tyra why they’re here. The judges prefer Mop Top's (Kayla's) (right) hard stare
Uma (Lexie) vs. Jordan

Jordan overtakes the photoshoot and tries her best to interact with Uma (Lexie), even getting a little "sexual" and "in her face."  However, Uma (Lexie) in the black solid top is clearly not feelin' the vibe.

Tumbleweed (Rhianna) vs. Giraffe (Ann)

Giraffe (Ann) (right) tries a look of surpriseI cannot stop laughing at this image!! The two models try to add "energy" to the shoot after Mr. J suggests trying a surprised look.  Umm...try again Giraffe (Ann).  Love ya, but practice ya face, girl!

Soup Coola' (Terra) vs. Serena (Chris)

The sisters work it out like pros in front of the cameraTick tick tick flash!

Mo'Chocolate (Kendal) vs. Re-Run (Kacey)

Re-Run (Kacey) (right) gets servedBoth girls look great, but Mo' Chocolate (Kendal) (right) brings it harder

What We Learned

  1. To make an official ANTM episode, you must relate part of the show to Tyra's early modeling days.
  2. Fashion Industry categories are:
    a) Quirky
    b) Sexy
    c) Strong Bone Structure
    d) Blondes
    e) Brunettes
  3. Models must know how to stand out against their own type.

Final Thoughts: Jordan's Departure

Ultimately, Jordan's departure shows us you must obey Tyra Rule #1) You must WANT to be in the competition.  Jordan fell victom to the curse of "not wanting to be here."  Whether she did or did not, we will never really know.  The problem remains she led those around her to believe she did not want to be there.

Post interview with the panel she boasted about how she told them: "I'm really against consumerism [and]  materialism and stuff like that."  Earlier too, on the bus ride, she claimed: "Consumerism is the opposite of what I represent."

I'm sorry but if you don't support materialism, why would you enter a fashion contest? The fashion industry promotes materialism and consumerism. If you don't want to participate in that, well, I hate to quote a cliche'd Re-Run (Kacey) but, "If you don't want to be here, go home!"

"American culture is telling [young girls] to fit into the mold; well, I just wanna break the mold." -- Jordan

Jordan's anti-establishmentarianism was apparent from the start and appealing to the judges.  She had a real shot at making it onto the show.  But ultimately, her hubris was her inability to stop gossiping and boasting about herself.  Hopefully she will try out again soon, but I doubt we will see her.

The take away here is: to win ANTM, you must consistently show the judges just how much you want to be a model.
